Tennis Staff

Winston Porter

Tennis and Pickleball Manager, RSPA Level 2 Tennis Instructor

 Winston Porter: wistonp@biparks.org

Winston grew up playing tennis in Florida. He loves everything about the game, including the challenge of continually working to be the best player. Winston retired from working in the technology industry a few years ago, and when the opportunity to teach part-time at BIRC presented itself, he knew it was a fit for him! Winston cherishes the opportunity to help others learn this wonderful game. His favorite life lesson that tennis teaches us is patience.

Kara Gajowskyj

RSPA Level 1 Tennis Instructor

karag@biparks.org

A Seattle native with family on Bainbridge Island, Kara recently relocated from Portland, OR where she played and taught tennis recreationally for numerous years. She is a retired medical professional and youth fitness instructor who first tried tennis to achieve a higher level of fitness after becoming a parent. Kara was immediately drawn to the challenge of the game and the camaraderie that comes with being on the tennis court. A self-proclaimed, ‘big kid’, she finds it particularly rewarding teaching children and their parents, who might also be learning tennis as adults.

Kaarin Garcia

Kaarin GarciaRSPA Level 1 Tennis Instructor

kaaring@biparks.org

Kaarin is a native of Puget Sound but has played and taught tennis across the country. For all four years at California Lutheran University, she played number one singles. Kaarin has been a resident of Bainbridge Island since 2017 and has been teaching tennis through our Parks & Rec for the last several years. Her love for tennis was sparked early by her father, Mike Benson, who served as the head of tennis for both Pacific Lutheran and California Lutheran universities across a 35-year coaching career.

Andrew Block

RSPA Level 1 Tennis Instructor

Andrew grew up just outside of DC playing high level junior tennis at Quince Orchard Swim & Tennis Club and at Thomas S. Wootton High School.  From the age of 14, he taught tennis lessons at Quince Orchard, continuing until the completion of his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland.  He went on to obtain his J.D. from Emory University School of Law.  When not playing tennis, Andrew is on the Board of Bainbridge Island Rowing, volunteers with the boys and girls high school tennis teams and continues to develop his photographic skills with the beautiful Pacific Northwest as the backdrop for family and nature photography.

Geoff Maron

Geoff MaronRSPA Level 1 Tennis Instructor

geoffm@biparks.org

Geoff started playing tennis with his dad at Strawberry Hill Park in the 80s. He grew up playing tennis recreationally while also participating in almost every other sport he could manage. Sports continued as the primary focus of his non-working time until recently when it became his working life, too, when he said yes to teaching tennis part-time here at BIRC. He loves sharing tennis with others – for him it’s a sport that teaches us there is always so much more to learn.
