Trails Committee

The Trails Committee assists Park District staff with work parties, community outreach & advocacy, information & history of the Island's trail system, and reporting trail concerns to staff.

Fay Bainbridge Park Camp Host

Fay Bainbridge Park is a 17-acre marine camping park with 1,420 feet of saltwater shoreline on the northeast corner of Bainbridge Island. The park contains RV Sites, tent sites, and rustic cabins. It offers sweeping views of Puget Sound, the Cascade Mountains, and sandy beaches. On clear days, Mount Rainier and Mount Baker are visible from a sandy beach.

Our Camp Hosts are guests’ first point of contact when they arrive at our campground. The Camp Host will greet the public, assist them with questions, help guests find a site, or provide guidance about the local area.

The Camp Host is responsible for checking trash and recycling bins daily and maintaining the grounds, sites, restrooms, amenities, and additional facilities. The Camp Host will prepare campsites, maintain a reservation list, and inform guests of the campground rules. Managers assign other duties and projects.

Camp Host will be provided an appropriate RV space with full hookups and have access to free Wi-Fi, electricity, and a Park District cell phone.

Parks & Trails Opportunities

Monthly Trail Work Parties

Work with our trails staff to maintain more than 40 miles of trails across the island. Work may include pruning vegetation, maintaining trail surfaces, and managing invasive species.

Help maintain Grand Forest East trails by restoring trails, pruning vegetation, raking trail surfaces, and more. It is suited for children ages eight and up who are comfortable using small hand tools and walking around a mile throughout the two-hour work party.

Conservation Work Parties

Join the Park District, Weed Warriors, and IslandWood while we manage and learn about invasive weeds at parks across the island.

Help care for our woods, meadows, beaches, and open space. We’ll remove invasive species, plant natives when the weather’s right, and mulch, mulch, mulch!

Volunteers will help remove invasive species and spread mulch to discourage regrowth and plant native species. Well suited for children ages six and up who are comfortable using small hand tools and walking off trail on uneven surfaces.

Red Pine Park Work Party

Work alongside our horticulture staff to preserve garden beds, a historic fruit orchard, edible perennials, and other landmark plantings in this former homestead in the heart of downtown.

Moritani Preserve Work Party

Join the Natural Resources team in caring for the woods and meadows of Moritani. Preserve by managing invasive species, maintaining garden beds, and planting natives when the weather is right.

Recreation Opportunities

Youth & Teen Camp Volunteers

Camp volunteers are young people or adults interested in assisting with a specific camp theme, age group, or site/facility. Camp volunteers work with camp directors and counselors to plan, prepare, and lead particular activities or projects within a camp program.

Why are Camp Volunteers needed?

Camp volunteers are needed to assist and enhance the efforts of camp staff with the “finishing touches” and details of a camp theme, sometimes even including costuming. Camp volunteers can mentor desired camper behavior by setting a positive example and participating in many camp activities alongside participants. By utilizing volunteers, staff can better focus on the many logistical camp tasks and day-to-issues as they arise. Camp volunteers are used primarily during the summer camp season but may also have opportunities during school breaks and holiday camps throughout the year.

What are the types of Camp Volunteers?

There are two types of camp volunteers: Skill-based and Theme-based.

Skill-based volunteers have specific skills to share with a camp, such as first-aid, stars, beading, music, cooking, knots, fire-building, or interest in working with a particular age group or at a specific place.

Theme-based volunteers have knowledge or interest in certain themes such as pirates, fairies, the beach, dinosaurs, or book-related cams and may be called upon to have a costume or be a character/role during the camp week.

Sports Programs Volunteers

We rely on volunteers to help make our sports programs successful. No experience is necessary! Volunteer coaching duties include helping manage your team during skill sessions and scrimmages.

Summer Camp Aide Volunteers assist camp counselors with our summer sports camps. This is an excellent opportunity for students aged 12-18 looking for community service hours or those who want to give back to the community.
