The Ray Williamson Pool remains closed as Phase 2 of its planned rehabilitation project continues. The facility is not expected to reopen during 2026. This important investment will enhance the pool's long-term safety, accessibility, and functionality, ensuring it continues to serve the Bainbridge Island community for years to come.
Construction crews have made significant progress since work began in May, with major demolition now approximately 99% complete. The pool has been fully emptied, drains have been removed, and crews have completed much of the demolition work needed to prepare the facility for the next phase of rehabilitation.
During the demolition process, crews uncovered many items left behind by swimmers over the years — a reminder of the countless memories, milestones, and moments that have taken place at Ray Williamson Pool. These discoveries offer a unique glimpse into the history of a facility that has been a gathering place for generations of swimmers.
With demolition nearing completion, upcoming work will focus on essential infrastructure improvements, including plumbing and electrical upgrades. Crews will continue preparing the facility for the next stages of construction as the project moves forward.
A Community Wall for Our Swimming Community
While construction is transforming the Ray Williamson Pool, we're also celebrating the generations of swimmers who have made it such a special place.
The construction barrier surrounding the project has become our community wall, where anyone who has ever used the Ray Williamson Pool is invited to add their name and the number of years they've been part of our swimming community. Whether you learned to swim here decades ago or visit every week, we'd love you to leave your mark and become part of the pool's next chapter.
Visitors can also get a firsthand look at the progress through special construction viewing portholes built into the wall. Inside the Aquatic Center lobby, a live construction camera provides another way to follow the rehabilitation as it unfolds.
During Construction
To help minimize impacts on aquatic programs, a temporary screen has been installed between the Ray Williamson Pool construction area and the Don Nakata Pool. While some construction-related noise and activity may be noticeable, every effort is being made to reduce disruptions.
Schedules for the Don Nakata Pool have been adjusted to accommodate community swimming programs during the closure. Please check the current Don Nakata Pool schedule for updated swim times and program availability.
