What's Happening

Hello everyone,

As summer arrives on Bainbridge Island, our parks and classes are buzzing with activity. Our staff is preparing for a busy summer, and we’re all so excited to enjoy this time of year with you. We have some exciting improvements underway, and I want to make sure our community is informed and prepared as we work through a busy season of upgrades.

You may have already noticed some changes at Battle Point Park, where we began replacement of the artificial turf fields on June 8. Construction is expected to continue through August 14, and parking adjacent to the fields will be limited during construction. The new fields will maintain the same striping and layout, so programming and sports use will feel familiar once we reopen.

Over at Pritchard Park, we ask for a little patience as well. The main entrance road and parking areas are impacted on occasion by construction activities for the new Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial visitor center. We appreciate your understanding.

Phase 2 of the Ray Williamson Pool rehabilitation is also well underway. I want to extend a sincere thank you to our swimming community for weathering the noise and disruption during the major demolition phase. Your patience has not gone unnoticed, and we're making great progress toward something the whole community will enjoy.

On a more personal note — don't be surprised if you see me popping into classes and camps this summer. I'm making it a point to get out and experience our programs firsthand, because there's no better way to understand what we offer than seeing it in action. I'm also happy to share that my grandson will be participating this season, and as a newly minted big brother, he's ready to enjoy everything that summer on Bainbridge Island has to offer. It means a great deal to me personally to see the quality of what our staff provides for the community.

Of course, summer wouldn't be complete without our events. From Terry's Sounds of Summer concert series and Movies in the Park to community celebrations throughout the season, there truly is something for everyone. I encourage you to view our full event calendar and make the most of these long Pacific Northwest evenings.
