Ken Waldman - Alaska's Fiddler Poet

Ken Waldman is the real thing! He lets himself be a vessel-- for stories, music, that far northern place he has chosen as home--and transmits it all as a wondrous, authentic blend, replete with humor and heart.
Naomi Shihab Nye

Ken Waldman is truly a national treasure and modern day Alaskan bard. His old-time fiddling, singing, and poetic storytelling captivate all within his sphere, weaving tales of Alaska and life and death and everything in between. As Ken works his magic, you can smell the woodsmoke, feel the Taku winds blowing under the door, and you get an itch to hit the Alcan highway and head for the land of ice and snow. A former college professor, Waldman has had more than 400 poems and stories published in national journals, and has worked full-time since 1994 as Alaska ’s Fiddling Poet, performing at some of the nation’s leading universities, festivals, arts centers, and clubs. Ken will be joined by multi-instrumentalist, Tania Opland.

This is a not-to-be-missed show, right here on Bainbridge Island!

“Waldman combines a vital, raw-edged Appalachian-styled fiddle with unpretentious, conversational poem-stories of everyday Alaskan life. The poetry and musical establishments may not know what to think of Waldman’s genre-merging, but the calm sense of wonder he engenders is easily accessible.”

Dan Gewertz, Boston Herald
