Gazzam Lake |
|
| |
Gazzam Lake Park and Wildlife Preserve includes
318 acres of highly valued upland foirests and wetlands in the southwest
quadrant of Bainbridge Island, between Baker Hill Road and Marshall
Road, a quarter mile west of Crystal Spring Drive. Current access
to the property is from Marshall Road, with very limited parking.

|
| |
This exceptional
park was purchased by the citizens of Bainbridge Island after a special
bond election in February 1995 and the winning of various state grants
towards the purchase. It is the Island's second largest area of undeveloped
property. |
 |
| |
Gazzam
Lake, in the northwest part of the park, is a 13-acre freshwater wetland
area that has remained substantially untouched by human development,
thus providing scenic beauty and wildlife habitat for a variety of
species. |
 |
| |
A Gazzam
Lake Advisory Committee, consisting of 22 interested citizens, was
appointed by the Park Board in late 1995. The committee's mission
was to make recommendations to the Park Board concerning the Master
Plan for Gazzam Lake Park. |
 |
| |
The committee
met 17 times from December 1995 to July 1996 and presented their report
to the Park Board on July 11, 1996. The SEPA process for the master
plan and development, which includes a 21-acre active-use recreation
site, will continue during 2000. |
