Recommended Plan for Pritchard Park
![]()
In support of developing a Schematic Park Design and Implementation Program for Pritchard Park, BIMPRD and the Pritchard Park Steering Committee, worked in partnership with the Urban Planning Department of the University of Washington. During the 2007 Spring Quarter, 11 graduate students from diverse disciplines developed alternative designs for Pritchard Park through a case-study based, interdisciplinary studio. Park visions were developed by small teams, incorporating design and planning skills, field and literature inventories, stakeholder interviews, geographic information systems, and strategic environmental planning and policy analysis. The UW studio, student-based work, was organized around two phases, as follows:
INVENTORY & ANALYSIS PHASE: focused on inventory and analysis of the park features to inform and guide potential design concepts. This work was presented at City Hall to the public on May 4.
PARK VISIONS PHASE: focused on the development of schematic park-vision alternatives. Student teams and individuals generated alternative visions for the entire park site, integrating the different features, values and uses of the park into a complementary whole. These alternatives were presented to the Pritchard Park Steering Commitee and public on June 6, 2007 at Bainbridge City Hall.
PHASE III provided a synthesis from the creative efforts and public processes provided through the University of Washington’s Urban Design & Planning, Center for Sustainability and six previous proposals. Public input and comments were received through October 5th, 2007. On March 5, 2008 Pritchard Park Advisory Design Committee submitted a Recommended Plan for Pritchard Park to the Park District and City Council.
